VeggieAnimals plus for dogs is formulated by a team of professional veterinary nutritionists who listened to us when we talked about a 100% vegetable feed with the best quality in terms of nutrients. VeggieAnimals plus is a complete and balanced food with 100% plant-based ingredients. Our dog food contains the optimal amount of protein, fat, carbohydrates, fibre, vitamins and minerals for our companions.

What proteins does VeggieAnimals plus for dogs contain?

Proteins derived mainly from maize, rice, peas, wheat and yeast. They are extracted, concentrated and prepared so that they can be assimilated and digested.

What about carnitine?

At VeggieAnimals we care about every detail, we study and analyse each of the nutritional needs of dogs, so we know that carnitine is an amino acid that plays a crucial role in the metabolism of fatty acids in the body. But we also know that in dogs, carnitine is synthesised endogenously in the liver and kidneys from the amino acids lysine and methionine, and they are much less able to assimilate it from animal foods. For this reason we are only concerned with providing methionine and lysine in adequate amounts for their bodies to produce them.

Some dogs may be carnitine deficient due to certain genetic diseases or metabolic disorders. In these cases, your vet may recommend carnitine supplements to meet the specific needs of each dog.

What other nutrients does VeggieAnimals contain? It's not just protein that nourishes us.

GREAS

Fats are made up of fatty acids and perform vital functions such as storing energy, serving as a structure for the production of hormones and other substances, and facilitating the transport and absorption of various vitamins such as the fat-soluble vitamins A, D and E. Fats are also important for maintaining healthy hair and skin.

Fats also help to make food more palatable, and are easily digestible.

Which fatty acids are essential for dogs?

There are two essential fatty acids for dogs, which their bodies cannot synthesise in sufficient quantities and must therefore be obtained from the diet. They are linoleic acid (omega-6) essential for normal immune system function and hormonal health, and also for maintaining a healthy skin and coat; and alpha-linolenic acid (omega-3) essential for brain, cardiovascular and eye health, as well as having an important anti-inflammatory action.  

These essential fatty acids are found in plant foods such as sunflower oil and flaxseed oil. 

It is important to ensure that your diet contains a balanced ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids to maintain optimal health.

CARBOHYDRATES

Carbohydrates provide cells with quick energy. Within carbohydrates are simpler molecules such as sugars. When sugars are put together, we find more complex carbohydrates such as starches and dietary fibres.

Sugars and starches are called digestible carbohydrates and provide energy. Fibre, while not digestible, improves the digestive health of our companions.

But aren't carbohydrates a bad thing?

Despite the grain free fad and the demonisation of cereals and carbohydrates, the reality is that dogs can digest and benefit from the consumption of carbohydrates, giving them energy for vitality and fibre to help their digestive and transit systems. 

Dietary fibre is essential for digestive health. Soluble fibres stimulate salivation, attract water and become gelatinous, helping the digestive contents to advance, and thanks to their bacterial fermentation, they help to regulate the rhythm of bowel movements. Low-fermentable or insoluble fibres increase stool bulk and aid digestive transit.

VITAMINS

Vitamins are essential for the correct functioning of the body, as they help in the assimilation of other nutrients and in the repair of the body. 

There are fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E and K) and water-soluble vitamins (all the others). Fat-soluble vitamins are stored in the liver and are not easily eliminated. While water-soluble vitamins do not pose a risk of overdose as the excess is eliminated in the urine, it is still important to have an optimal intake of each of them.

Do dogs need to take vitamin B12?

Well, B12 and a few others, but don't worry, although there are other essential vitamins in dogs such as vitamin C and vitamin A, you don't have to give them in a daily or weekly pill, because at VeggieAnimals we take everything into account and they are already in our recipe.

MINERALS

Minerals are also essential nutrients. Macro minerals such as calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, sodium and potassium should be present in the food, and trace minerals such as iron, copper, zinc, manganese, cobalt, iodine, selenium and fluoride should be present in smaller amounts.

Does VeggieAnimals cause health problems in dogs?

The answer is obviously no, as these problems occur when the food has an imbalance of nutrients. VeggieAnimals is low in fat and therefore suitable for sterilised and overweight animals.

But the fact that it is low in fat does not mean that it is contraindicated in convalescent animals, as it is a high quality food.
