VEGAN RECIPES FOR DOGS. Part 1.

We love surprising our dogs with special treats. Therefore, once a week, we take the wonderful little book that we are going to offer you and cook some delicious and very healthy vegan recipes for our furry friends.

Be careful! The occasional use of these recipes can be useful to positively vary the diet of dogs that are always fed dry food, and, in certain cases, because of their increased appetite. Nevertheless, it is important to be extremely careful when preparing these recipes on a daily basis (if this is the case, you should have a copy of the book and read all the information), since, if dogs do not get all the nutrients they need, this could put their health at risk.

The book is available in English: Vegetarian Dogs, Toward A World Without Exploitation, and in Italian: Cani Vegetariani, Verso un Mondo Senza Sfruttamento. It is written by Verona Rebow and Jonathan Dune and includes 6 recipes for food, 1 recipe for snacks, and also explains how to correctly feed the dogs, as well as how to administer supplements, and gives us a few tips on nutrition.

Recipe 1: BASIC MEAL

Daily servings for an average-sized dog (two meals)

430 g boiled brown rice
135 g wheat germ
100 g oat flakes
40 g thinly sliced or lightly steamed leafy vegetables (*)
1 finely grated carrot
1 tablespoon (15 ml) of vegetable oil
0.6 g (1/8 teaspoon) kelp powder
A pinch of salt
0.25 g or more of powdered or steamed alfafa
6 g (1 teaspoon and ¼) of citrated calcium (2500 mg of calcium)
20 mg of zinc


(*) Spinach, rocket, romaine lettuce, chard... cook slowly to aid digestion.

NOTE: You can remove the wheat germ in all recipes only if you add Vitamin E (from 20UI to 100UI) and nutritional yeast regardless of the weight of the dog. Vitamin B12, 100 mcg, once or twice a month. Check the full recipe in the book if you are going to use it daily.

Recipe 2: MULTICEREAL FOOD (No cooking necessary)

For this recipe, we will use the Basic Meal recipe, where we will replace the wheat germ, rice and oats with the following ingredients:

100 g rye flakes
100 g barley flakes
90 g grain germ

or

200 g wheat flakes
100 g oat flakes
90 g grain germ

or

250 g rye flakes
90 g grain germ

or

200 g rye flakes
25 g textured soy
90 g grain germ

Recipe 3: BEANS/LENTILS MEAL

Recipe for dogs that require high levels of protein intake.
Not recommended for daily use by puppies, in order to avoid excess feeding and obesity.

380 g cooked lentils
180 g beans
90 g wheat germ
3 spoons (45 ml) of vegetable oil
5 g (1 teaspoon) calcium carbonate (2000 mg pure calcium)
40 g leaf vegetables, thinly cut or slightly steamed. (*)
1 finely grated carrot
0.6 g (1/8 teaspoon) of powdered kelp
A pinch of salt.
0.25 g or more of powdered or steamed alfafa.
20 mg of zinc
